Here comes the train that takes me away from Randa, right on time like those famous Swiss watch (Czech railways should take some lessons from these guys). Sitting in a lonely train makes me think back about this wonderful week I've spent here in the middle of Alps.
I was part of the Nepomuk sprint group together with Sebastian Trueg, Ivan Cukic, Daniele E. Domenichelli, Smit Shah (The famous..who) and Seif Lotfy & Trever Fischer from Zeitgeist project. I was mostly working on my GSoC project with Sebastian's help and I got to discuss it with Volker Krause, my mentor who was attending the Platform11 sprint. Some bits were also done on KDE-Telepathy as well thanks to four of us Telepathy hackers being in the house (together with me and Danielle, who worked on file transfer, there was George Kiagiadakis and Dario Freddi), we fixed some serious bugs, redesigned a few things and also discussed a possible Telepathy sprint in September. And lastly, I gave my helping hand here and there (mostly in the table football).
It was my second KDE sprint after last year's KDE Imaging sprint in Aix en Provance. This time I got to meet all the well known IRC nicks and Planet-KDE.org names finally in person. KDE hackers are really an awesome bunch of dudes. It felt more like a family than co-workers. There was Cornellius Schumacher, the president of KDE e.V. (and technically something like our boss) chatting informally at the table about everything and nothing. That's just the great side of KDE community - everyone treats everyone as equal and with respect. Dario's words would fit perfectly here - "Thanks to KDE you have friends all around the world and you can be sure that they would let you stay over if you needed". Which I'm now experiencing myself - my plane goes too early in the morning so I'm staying in Visp at a friend's of Mario Fux, the main organizer, to whom I'd like to say big THANK YOU for taking care of everything, from hot water through really great meals and a bit flaky internet connection to a place to put our heads down at nights (and mine in a special place). Big thanks goes to KDE e.V. as well for making this possible and also to all the other sponsors. So - thank you. And also thank all of you who were there and made this week rock as much as it did. It was really nice meeting you all and I hope we'll meet again soon (sadly I won't be able to make it to Berlin :/ )
This week was very inspiring for me and it just tighten my determination to keep working on KDE SC and to work even more.
I'm proud to be "part of the solution".
